“Apartheid has gone, but gaps in the social fabric, in our experience and understanding of each others’ life remains. Iliso Labantu can make a meaningful contribution to reducing them.” –David Goldblatt, South African photographer

I co-founded Iliso Labantu with photographer, Alistair Berg, as a way to train and support photographers from the townships around Cape Town.

Iliso Labantu is going into it’s sixth year. We have have provided training and opportunities for individuals to use photography as a way of documenting their lives, and those of the communities around them, and to be able to make sustainable careers for themselves as photographers.

Their work has been exhibited and sold in Germany, the UK, and South Africa. We have recently teamed up with Jonathan Wang, who has been holding workshops for local photographers. His blog is at: http://fotoprojectspace.tumblr.com/
